Recently, I started developing a website for a non-profit organisation. The initiative was really interesting and I believe that it can make a difference in a lot of people’s lifestyles, so I decided to work for free.
Over the years, I have realised that not a lot of people take projects seriously. It is annoying to work with a bunch of people who are good at what they do but won’t make the effort.
Coincidentally, I read a tweet which said:
I loved the advice given above. That’s when I realised what the term ‘fake work’ actually means.
From what I understand, I would define fake work as ‘work’ you do for your satisfaction. It might have good effects in long term (like building a website) but won’t bring you the motivation you need to keep going.
You would want to work slowly with the project, even though you are passionate about it.
What we need to start working on is real work — which is what brings results quickly + gives you the motivation to keep working hard to get things done fast and most importantly — avoid non-essential tasks or tasks that don’t need to get done immediately along the way.
